Soundproofing vs sound absorption
Soundproofing and sound absorption are different. Soundproofing reduces sound travelling between spaces. Acoustic treatment controls reflections inside a room.
If neighbour noise is passing through a wall, you normally need mass, cavity absorption, airtightness and possibly decoupling. If the room itself sounds echoey, products such as acoustic curtains, TVS ABSorb panels or Quietstone may be more appropriate.

Airborne noise
Voices, TV, music and traffic are airborne noise. These problems usually respond to greater mass, better airtightness and improved wall or ceiling construction.
Impact and structure-borne noise

The four principles of effective soundproofing
1. Add mass
Dense layers resist airborne sound transmission. Useful Soundproofing King products include SPK15 Sand Board, Gyproc SoundBloc, Mass Loaded Vinyl and TECSOUND SY100.
2. Absorb sound inside cavities
Acoustic mineral wool reduces resonance inside wall and ceiling voids. Common choices include Rockwool RWA45, Rockwool RW3, Knauf APR and ISOVER APR.
3. Decouple

4. Seal the weak points
Perimeter gaps and service penetrations can undermine a much heavier build-up. A suitable product such as AC50 Acoustic Sealant can form part of the specified airtight detail.
