Our heavy-duty Acoustic Sound Absorbing Curtain is manufactured from dense acoustic fabric designed to absorb reflected sound within a room.
Ideal for recording studios, music rooms, home cinemas, theatres, offices and other reverberant spaces, the curtain helps control unwanted reflections and improve speech and sound clarity without permanently altering the room.
It can also be hung across windows, doors and openings where its additional mass can provide a modest improvement in sound privacy.
Available in multiple drops with a standard width of approximately 1500mm.

What Does an Acoustic Curtain Do?
Acoustic curtains are designed primarily to absorb sound within a room.
Hard surfaces such as plasterboard, glass, concrete and timber reflect sound back into the room. In spaces containing many reflective surfaces this can create excessive reverberation, echo and poor sound clarity.
The dense, soft construction of an acoustic curtain absorbs a proportion of this reflected sound rather than allowing it to continue bouncing around the room.

Acoustic Curtain Performance
The curtain performs particularly well across the mid and higher frequency range, where speech, vocals and many musical frequencies occur.
Typical absorption performance improves considerably when the curtain is installed with folds or gathered, rather than stretched completely flat.

For maximum acoustic absorption, we recommend allowing sufficient curtain width for the material to form folds rather than hanging it completely flat.

Windows
Glass is highly reflective acoustically. Hanging a heavy acoustic curtain across a window can considerably reduce sound reflections from the glass.
The additional mass can also provide a small improvement in sound transmission through the window area, although it should not be considered a replacement for acoustic glazing.
Doors & Openings
Acoustic curtains can be positioned across doors and openings where a flexible acoustic treatment is required.
They may provide a modest improvement in privacy, but substantial soundproofing normally requires an appropriately sealed, high-mass door or dedicated acoustic construction.

Flat or Gathered – Which Is Better?
For acoustic treatment, gathered is better.
Installing additional curtain width creates folds in the material, increasing the effective surface area and depth of the treatment.
As a general guide, consider using approximately 1.5–2 times the width of the opening where space and budget allow.
For example:
2 metre opening → approximately 3–4 metres of curtain width
The curtain can still be installed flat where space is restricted, but acoustic absorption will generally be lower.
Does an Acoustic Curtain Soundproof a Room?
No curtain should be considered a replacement for proper structural soundproofing.
Acoustic curtains are primarily designed to reduce echo, reverberation and reflected sound inside a room.
Because this curtain is substantially heavier than a normal domestic curtain, it can provide some additional sound reduction when positioned across windows, doors or openings. However, it will not stop loud music, bass, voices or other nuisance noise in the same way as a properly designed wall, floor, ceiling, door or glazing system.

If your objective is making the room itself sound less echoey and more controlled, an acoustic curtain can be an excellent solution.
Installation
The curtains should be suspended from a suitably rated heavy-duty curtain track or pole capable of supporting their weight.
For large spans, we generally recommend a heavy-duty track rather than a conventional domestic curtain pole.
Always check the load capacity of the track, brackets, fixings and supporting structure before installation.
For improved acoustic absorption:
- Leave an air gap between the curtain and the wall or window where possible.
- Allow the curtain to hang with folds rather than pulling it completely flat.
- Extend the curtain beyond the edges of the window or opening where practical.
- Use sufficient curtain length to provide full coverage.
