Acoustic Spray for Warehouses, Sports Halls & Industrial Ceilings: When BoSpray Makes Sense

by Total Admin on Sep 04, 2026

Large warehouses, sports halls, factories and restaurants often have the same acoustic problem: lots of hard surface area and very little absorption. Metal decking, concrete, glazing and blockwork reflect sound back into the space, extending reverberation and making speech, alarms and everyday activity harder to understand.

Where suspended panels or rafts are awkward because of services, complex ceiling geometry or the scale of the building, Quietstone BoSpray acoustic spray offers another route: a cellulose-based absorptive finish sprayed directly onto suitable walls, ceilings and profiled decking.

Soundproofing King advice: acoustic spray is primarily for echo and reverberation control. It does not replace a dense wall, acoustic door or structural soundproofing system where the objective is to stop noise passing between spaces.

What is acoustic spray?

BoSpray is a specialist-applied cellulose acoustic coating with high recycled content and a low-VOC binder. It forms a porous layer that absorbs reflected sound rather than allowing all of that energy to bounce from the original hard surface.

BoSpray acoustic spray applied to a commercial ceiling with exposed services

Spray application is particularly useful on large ceilings, curved areas and around ducts, pipes and other services where panel systems can need complicated cutting and suspension.

How much sound does BoSpray absorb?

Thickness Published NRC Absorption class
15mm 0.65 D
25mm 0.75 C
37.5mm 0.85 B
40mm 0.95 A

The correct thickness depends on the reverberation target, room geometry and available surface area. These are laboratory absorption data, not dB sound-insulation figures.

Where acoustic spray makes sense

  • Warehouses and factories
  • Sports halls, gyms and indoor padel facilities
  • Swimming pools and humid leisure spaces
  • Restaurants, cafés and bars
  • Schools, canteens and auditoriums
  • Open-plan offices
  • Retail and showrooms

Why industrial metal-deck ceilings are a strong application

Profiled steel decking is hard, reflective and usually interrupted by lights, pipes, cable trays, sprinklers and ventilation. BoSpray can follow the profile and work around existing services, turning much of that reflective ceiling into absorption without installing a forest of suspended rafts.

Quietstone project examples

Sheffield – approximately 1,800m²

Quietstone supplied a Sheffield project where Eco Grey BoSpray was applied to around 1,800m² of trapezoidal decking. This is exactly the type of large hard-surface environment where spray treatment becomes commercially attractive.

Warrington – approximately 400m²

Another project used around 400m² of BoSpray to decking within a café area, applied around the existing ceiling services rather than removing them.

BoSpray vs Quietstone rigid acoustic panels

Product Best suited to Main advantage
BoSpray Large, irregular, service-heavy walls and ceilings Seamless spray-applied absorption
Quietstone Acoustic Panels External, impact-prone or modular treatment Rigid, weather-resistant absorber

For outdoor padel and noise-screen applications, read our Quietstone padel noise guide.

Fire, moisture and finish

BoSpray is published with an EN 13501-1 reaction-to-fire classification of B-s1,d0 and is described as resistant to condensation, mould and mildew. It can therefore suit demanding commercial and humid locations when the full project specification is appropriate.

Colour can be selected to work with the architecture rather than automatically accepting a standard grey industrial finish.

Is acoustic spray suitable for your project?

Send Soundproofing King the approximate treated area, photographs or drawings, ceiling or wall type, room use, height and required finish. We can help establish whether spray treatment, rigid acoustic panels or a structural soundproofing system is the better route.
