1. Identify airborne vs impact noise

2. Fill the ceiling cavity
For timber joist ceilings, use appropriate acoustic mineral wool to reduce resonance in the void. Options include Rockwool RWA45, Rockwool RW3, Knauf APR and ISOVER APR.
Fit the insulation neatly to the cavity depth without forcing an oversized product into the void.
3. Decouple the new ceiling
Isolation clips and channels reduce the direct vibration path between the joists or structure and the new lining. Options include Genie Clip LB2, Genie Clip LB3, GenieClip RST and acoustic furring channel.
Clip spacing, channel centres, fixings and lining weight must follow the exact manufacturer or system specification. Do not use generic centres from another clip system.
4. Add mass to the lining

5. Seal the perimeter and services

7. Choose the system around the available depth
A low-profile clip system can be useful where ceiling height is restricted, while a deeper independent or suspended system may suit projects where greater separation is possible. Concrete soffits and timber joist ceilings need different fixing strategies, so confirm the existing construction before ordering.
