Kingspan Kooltherm K118 Insulated Plasterboard
Kingspan Kooltherm K118 Insulated Plasterboard
Kingspan Kooltherm K118 is an insulated plasterboard for projects where wall space is tight and standard PIR laminate would need to be thicker. Its phenolic insulation core has a declared thermal conductivity of 0.019 W/mK, so it can deliver more thermal resistance at the same insulation depth than a 0.022 W/mK PIR laminate.
That difference matters in narrow rooms, window reveals and refurbishment work where every millimetre affects the finished space. The board combines the insulation with a plasterboard face, leaving an internal surface ready for normal finishing.
K118 is not simply a premium brand version of ordinary PIR plasterboard. It is chosen for the lower lambda value. When substituting it, compare the thermal resistance of the complete board rather than matching overall thickness alone.
Why Choose This Product?
Choose this when you want insulation and a plasterboard lining in one board. It saves a separate boarding stage and keeps the internal build-up neater than fixing rigid insulation and plasterboard independently.
Key Features
· Phenolic insulation bonded to plasterboard
· Declared conductivity: 0.019 W/mK
· Slimmer route to higher thermal resistance
· For internal walls, roofs and suitable ceilings
· 2400 x 1200mm board
Common Uses
· Space-restricted internal wall insulation
· Window and door reveals
· Loft conversions
· High-performance refurbishment work
Installation
Use the fixing method stated for the wall, frame or roof lining. Keep the insulation continuous through corners and reveals, mechanically restrain boards where required and seal all cut edges and service penetrations before finishing.
Before You Install
· Ordering by insulation thickness when the option is listed by overall thickness.
· Leaving gaps around sockets, reveals and service penetrations.
· Using adhesive alone where mechanical restraint is required.
· Assuming every PIR-backed plasterboard has the same lambda value.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the listed thickness include plasterboard?
Yes. The overall thickness includes the plasterboard face and the insulation backing.
Can it be fixed with adhesive?
Some wall applications permit an approved adhesive system, normally with mechanical restraint. Ceilings and sloping linings require suitable mechanical fixings.
Can I skim it?
Yes. The plasterboard face can be jointed or skimmed in the normal way.
Is it better than separate PIR and plasterboard?
Thermally it can be comparable. The main advantage is a quicker, tidier single-board lining; separate layers can be easier where services or irregular walls need more adjustment.
Can I use it on a damp wall?
The source of damp must be resolved first. Insulated plasterboard should not be used to hide active moisture problems.
