Low Build-Up Acoustic Floor Matting for Impact Noise Reduction

Hushlay 12 Sound Matting is a 12mm acoustic floor underlay designed to reduce impact noise and improve airborne sound insulation through floor structures. It is suitable for refurbishment, conversion and residential soundproofing projects where you need a meaningful acoustic upgrade without adding excessive floor height.

Each sheet measures 1200mm x 1200mm and covers 1.44m², making it easy to calculate quantities for bedrooms, flats, living rooms, studios and other floor soundproofing projects.

Hushlay 12 uses a layered construction that combines a dense acoustic deadening layer with a frequency-tuned resilient layer. This helps reduce footfall noise, vibration transfer and general sound transmission through timber or concrete floor structures.

For best results, Hushlay 12 should be installed as part of a complete floor soundproofing build-up, with suitable perimeter isolation, joint treatment and control of flanking noise.

Key features

Installation notes

Lay Hushlay 12 over a clean, dry and level floor surface. Sheets should be tightly butted together, with joints taped where required. Perimeter isolation should be used to stop the floor finish touching surrounding walls, skirtings or fixed structures.

For engineered timber, laminate or other hard floor finishes, check whether a suitable timber layer or separating layer is required above the mat. Do not mechanically fix through the acoustic layer unless the system specification allows it, as this can reduce acoustic performance.

Hush recommends using the Hushlay range with correct perimeter strips, adhesive, timber sheet layers and jointing tape where required for the full floor build-up.

FAQ

What is Hushlay 12 used for?
Hushlay 12 is used to reduce impact noise and improve acoustic performance in floor constructions. It is commonly used in flats, bedrooms, living rooms, conversions and refurbishment projects.

How big is each sheet?
Each sheet is 1200mm x 1200mm, covering 1.44m².

How thick is Hushlay 12?
Hushlay 12 is 12mm thick, making it a lower-build-up option than thicker acoustic floor mats.

Can it reduce airborne noise as well as impact noise?
Yes. It is mainly used for impact noise reduction, but the dense acoustic layer also helps improve airborne sound insulation when installed as part of a suitable floor build-up.

Do I need perimeter strips?
Yes, perimeter isolation is strongly recommended. Without it, sound can flank through walls, skirtings and surrounding structures, reducing the performance of the floor system.
